Another Monday is here, and another weekend has passed. Again, I didn't check my email all weekend. Here are the reports of three email boxes that sat dormant since Friday night.

401 total messages recieved
25 spam messages were in my inboxes. The rest were filtered to the junkmail folder.
No legit messages were marked as junk.

92% of junkmail was filtered correctly.

Matthew Morgan, a senior at Boothbay Region High School, has been selected as the recipient of the 2005 Midcoast Internet Foundation scholarship. Morgan has taken classes in web design, Macromedia Flash and Fireworks, and Javascript, as well AP English. He plans to meld these courses together as he majors in Technology and Communications at Bates College.

15 high schools from Brunswick to Augusta to Belfast were asked to submit candidates for the scholarship. Three community leaders from the Rockland Kiwanis Club acted as judges. This is the 6th year of the MIS scholarship.

The Midcoast Internet Foundation scholarship is now in the hands of the judges! We sent applications to 15 mid-coast area high schools, and three (Georges Valley, Boothbay Regional, and Coastal Christian) returned them. Three Rockland Kiwanians are judging this year: Joe Catalano of 3-Dimensions, Jane Dagley of Union Trust, and Pete Cella of Coyote Electrical Enterprises. We hope to have their results within the next week.

This weekend, I didn't check my email at all; I just let it sit and stew on the server. This morning, I thought I'd provide you with some interesting statistics on how the MIS Spam Assassin worked. I have my junk mail filtered to a special folder, so everything that's marked as junk goes there, and I can look through it quickly to see if anything legit got mis-tagged. My Spam Assasssin threshold is set at 2.9.

This morning, I had 139 total messages.
Of those, eight made it to my in-box.
Of those eight, six were junk.
Of the 131 that were in the junk folder, 100% were junk. No legit messages were tagged as junk.

So the Spam Assassin missed six pieces of junk out of 139 total messages. That's about a 96% effective rate. That's a lot better than AOL's reporting of reducing junk for their users my 75%.

Midcoast Internet's Spam Assassin. It's free. It works.

Congratulations to MIS owner JP and his wife Alison on the birth of their first child, Emma. She was born about 4am Tuesday, and weighed 8lbs, 6oz, and mom and baby are doing fine. Pictures are available!

Once again we'll be offering a very unique prize for the referral contest winner. For those of you who are new to the policy, here's how it works. First, you refer a friend to MIS as a customer. You then will get a credit based on the service your friend signs up for. And on top of that, we add your name to a drawing. The winner (chosen at random) gets some sort of prize donated by a local business. And this month, the prize is a 1/2 hour birthday party/small event package from Zabby's Traveling Farm Animals!!! How perfect is this for summer! You must have a child/grandchild/neice/nephew with a birthday this summer, right? Well now, you can have a petting zoo at the party! The prize is for 1/2 hour, but if you want to book more time (at your own expense), you can. You can even add pony rides! The value of this prize is $65, and for that reason, we're going to run with this prize until June 17th. There will still be plenty of summer left. It doesn't have to be a birthday, and it doesn't have to be for kids. Maybe the animals could add that certain something to your big summer cook-out, or a family reunion!
